Supporting boys’ learning

In response to demand, Anne now offers training for primary teachers and support staff on boys’ learning and effective strategies for supporting and encouraging it.

Her courses are appropriate for national, regional and local authority training, and as whole school inset. Anne adapts every course to local circumstances and learner needs.

All Anne’s courses are fully participative so good practice and areas of concern can be shared.

This training is accompanied by comprehensive handouts.

Expected learning outcomes:

  • more understanding of boys’ needs and the barriers to learning
  • the context in terms of the national curriculum, Ofsted and latest research
  • practical methods for overcoming reluctance and exciting boys about learning
  • ideas for developing boys’ literacy, numeracy and other skills across the curriculum
  • strategies for engaging boys in the classroom and beyond
  • greater knowledge of boy-friendly learning materials and ways to exploit them
  • increased confidence when helping boys and their parents and carers

Anne also gives workshops on boys’ learning for parents and carers.
