Policy and planning for the school library

Practical training on effective school library policies and development plans.

Anne provides courses on school library policy and planning for the primary or secondary sector, or for both. Her training is appropriate for school librarians, literacy leaders, library coordinators, teachers and teaching assistants with responsibility for the library. Anne always tailors her training to local circumstances and learner needs. She offers face-to-face and online options.

By the end of the training participants will have:

  • learnt more about Ofsted priorities and other current educational issues and their implications for library policy
  • explored the importance of a school library policy and development plan and how they link to school priorities and other school policies
  • identified the aims and objectives of their school library
  • identified appropriate content and structure for library polices and plans
  • started to construct an appropriate library policy and a practical and workable library development plan for their school
  • formulated ideas for monitoring and evaluation
  • gained greater confidence in managing and developing the library

Delegates receive an extensive set of back-up materials.

What people say about this training

I go away more confident to think around our current policy and to identify key staff and develop a useful policy.

Effective and informative. The key elements of policy and planning with a focus on the new Ofsted regulations were well met.

Valuable information, discussion and handouts to take back, which I can use to improve the Academy’s LRC.

Thank you for a really informative meeting. I felt really empowered following on from your advice.

Really good. Lots to think on and share.

Very informative. I take lots of ideas away and feel ready to make the case to SLT on the importance of the LRC.

I have a clearer idea of policy making and development plan construction and an understanding of what other libraries do successfully.

Very useful and beneficial as I am new to the job and was daunted by some of these areas.

Very interesting and I feel confident in moving forward in the LRC so that it remains very high on the Academy list.

I can't wait to get back to school to implement some of the ideas.
