Reading for mindfulness and well-being

This new, interactive, hands-on course provides a much-needed opportunity to explore the value of books and reading for children's mental health and to identify strategies for using them effectively.

The course is suitable for literacy leaders, class teachers, school and public library staff and other interested practitioners. Anne is happy to adapt it for different key stages, and as national, regional or local authority training or as whole school inset.

Expected learning outcomes include:

  • more understanding of the links between reading and mindfulness and well-being
  • new methods for harnessing books and reading to explore issues
  • ideas for using books to develop children's empathy and celebrate difference
  • tips for exploiting books to help children understand emotions and relationships
  • ways to utilise books to build self-esteem and resilience and reduce anxiety
  • an introduction to a wide range of books that can support children's mental health

Participants will receive invaluable handouts, including weblinks, sources of further information and ideas, and a comprehensive list of useful children's books.

This course is still in the development stage, so no feedback is yet available.
