Policy and planning for the school library

A practical training course on how to formulate an effective school library policy and development plan.

The course is available for the primary or secondary sector, or for both. It is appropriate for school librarians, literacy and library coordinators and teachers and teaching assistants with responsibility for the library. Anne always tailors the course to local circumstances and learner needs.

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • explored the importance of a school library policy and development plan and how they link to other school policies and practices
  • identified the aims and objectives of their school library
  • identified appropriate topics to cover in the policy and plan
  • started to construct an appropriate library policy and a practical and workable library development plan for their school
  • formulated ideas for monitoring the policy and plan
  • gained greater confidence in managing and developing the library

The course is accompanied by an extensive set of back-up materials.

What people say about this course

I learnt the importance of good library provision to enhance children's learning.

I have a clearer idea of policy making and development plan construction and an understanding of what other libraries do successfully.

I can't wait to get back to school to implement some of the ideas.
