Early years library provision

Anne offers interactive training for library staff who work with babies and young children and for Bookstart staff to explore ways to encourage library use by families with children under five, and methods for fostering a love of books and reading.

Anne is very happy to tailor this course to local circumstances.

Expected learning outcomes include:

  • more awareness of the needs of families with young children and of how libraries and library staff can help them
  • more knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and its implications
  • greater understanding of early language and literacy development
  • more confidence in choosing and using rhymes, books and other resources
  • strategies for developing reading enjoyment and skills through games and play
  • new ideas for helping parents and carers
  • greater knowledge of current legislation and child safety issues

Course delegates receive comprehensive handouts.

What people say about this course

It was well paced and very relaxed and although we worked hard it was enjoyable and rewarding.

Very good to look at the books and discuss them. I learnt a lot.

Really useful. I wouldn’t have been able to do all the things I do in the library if it hadn’t been for this course.
