I was reminded what a great scheme Readathon is yesterday, when a delightful key stage 3 boy came to my door offering to read aloud to raise money for charity. He gave me a choice of five titles. Tempting as it was to listen to some of the BFG, one of my all-time favourite books, or Butterfly Lion, I opted for My Friend Walter, as it’s a Michael Morpurgo book I don’t know. It was a real treat to be read to in my own home, and lovely to talk afterwards about books and authors that we particularly enjoy. I was disappointed to discover that although my reader had collected sponsorship from several people beside myself, none of the rest had asked him to read. They missed a trick. I hope he had other takers after me.
Well done to St Mary’s High School in Barnet for organising this.
